Richmond Hill is bounded by Bloomington Rd. (Aurora town limit) to the north, York Regional Road 7 (Vaughan city limit west of Yonge St., Markham city limit east of Yonge St.) to the south, Bathurst St. (Vaughan city limit) to the west, and Ontario Highway 404 (Markham city limit) to the east.
History
Located in York Region’s south-central area and the 3rd most populous municipality. Formally incorporated n 1873 with an official approval to town status in 1957. With a population of about 200,000, Richmond Hill has grown to encompass some of the more popular northern communities such as Elgin Mills, Oak Ridges, East Beaver Creek and a few more. Surrounding Richmond Hill in the early days were mostly rural regions, dirt roads and undeveloped lands. Over time the surrounding communities have constructed into suburban areas. The rise is population created the need for homes and by 1976 Richmond Hill’s housing prices was amongst one of the highest in Canada. Plans for further development led by civic planner Peter Walker, industrial development was centered around Yonge Street which has now unofficially become Richmond Hill’s downtown core.

GO transit, York Region Transit and Viva have steadily run through Richmond Hill since 1978.

The most growth seen for Richmond Hill came between 1990 to 2000 with industrial, commercial and institutional growth at $89 million. Mostly comprised of small businesses, the technology industry has come to a boom at the Richmond Hill to Markham border.
